Russia meat ban 'could become permanent' (AAP)

Russia could slap a permanent ban on beef and kangaroo meat from four Australian processing plants. Russia has imposed temporary bans on meat coming from processing plants in eight countries, including Australia, following a crackdown by its inspectors. Three kangaroo and one beef plant are affected in Australia but the industry body, Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA), has refused to identify them. AAP understands the affected exporters make up only a small percentage of Australia's meat sales to Russia . Russian federal service for veterinary surveillance, Rosselkhoznadzor, said temporary bans were imposed after it found antibiotics in meat products.
