MetService severe-weather forecaster Bob Lake said the southerly would be at its coldest today, with snow expected. "It will get progressively colder, and snow will be down to quite low levels tomorrow," he said yesterday. "Down to 200m to 300m over the Canterbury Plains area and down to fairly low levels on the Port Hills, and they probably could get some on the hill suburbs." Lake warned it was not likely to be the last snowfall this winter. "I wouldn't be surprised if it happens a few more times," he said. "There's more tendency for northerly or southerly winds over New Zealand and that trend is probably going to continue for a little while.
