Bear cub spotted in Gastonia hospital parking lot 5:55 PM

05:55 PM EDT on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 By MARIA KOTULA / WCNC GASTONIA, N.C. -- A bear was sighted in an unusual place, right outside a Gaston County hospital. And that sighting was followed by another bear sighting nearby. "It's woody and obviously things could hide in here," says surgeon Sheri Mancini. Mancini and many other employees look around before getting out of their cars at Gaston Memorial Hospital these days. Mancini says it was all the buzz at work -- the bear cub spotted in the employee parking lot Tuesday. "We've seen a fox in the parking lot and what not, but never a deer let alone a bear," she says. Hospital vendor Brook Beasley says it's surprising as he points out, "With all the development of the area, but I guess this was originally their land."
