MATTYDALE, N.Y. -- It teaches them good citizenship, discipline and morale. It's the Junior Police Academy at the New York Air National Guard base in Mattydale. Kids between the ages of 13 and 19 are taught basic fundamentals of law enforcement and military functions. Real life scenarios like domestic disputes and homicides are acted out and after just two weeks, many of these cadets take home with them what they've learned. "A lot of the children come in and it's a lot of yeah's and nah's. By the time they leave, they're going home and parents are calling us saying thank you because it's a yes sir, yes ma'am, no sir, no ma'am. And they kids seem to actually appreciate that type of structure, more so than when they came here before," said Staff Sergeant Tom Addley.
