Côte d'Ivoire: Essien Wants Drogba to Stay

Posted to the web 23 July 2008 Ghana midfielder Michael Essien has asked his friend and Ivorian teammate Didier Drogba to commit to Chelsea. Essien extended his contract with Chelsea on Tuesday while Drogba stayed away from the club's pre-season in China because of a persistent knee injury. The striker's absence has sparked new speculation about his future at the club with AC Milan and Barcelona reported to be interested in his services but Essien wants Drogba to stay. If he can make up his mind it will be good for us. He knows what he wants so it is up to him "Hopefully things will work out for Didier because we need him to stay," said Essien.
