Airports may become most unsafe places to be

This is in response to "Picture yourself in full-body scan; O'Hare security system to show everything—that's everything" (Page 1, July 20), by Tribune reporter Jon Hilkevitch. As an irradiated infant, I was "recalled" like a faulty automobile at age 25 in 1975 to be screened for thyroid cancer. It was becoming evident at that time that those millions of infants and young people of all ages who had been irradiated in the '30s, '40s and '50s were presenting with suspiciously advanced thyroid cancers many years later. Among the many maladies for which radiation therapy was prescribed were tonsillitis, enlarged adenoids or thymus glands, infantile projectile vomiting (my disorder) and acne.
