LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 23, 2008) − Researchers at the University of Kentucky are developing a new method to rapidly screen chemical compounds to determine their capabilities as potential pharmaceuticals. The researchers, led by Royce Mohan, an associate professor in the UK College of Medicine’s laboratory for chemical biology and drug discovery, have received a three-year, $879,427 grant from the National Institutes of Health under the NIH’s Molecular Libraries Roadmap program. The UK project is seeking a robotic method to analyze the chemical activities of various compounds to determine their effectiveness in preventing angiogenesis, the growth of new blood vessels that many diseases, including cancer, rely upon. "We’re developing ’high throughput drug screening,’ which will help us in assay development to identify compounds... [read full story]
