WHAT'S NOT WORKING: DAY 1 S.F. memorial vandalized: Four months ago, a memorial honoring the Abraham Lincoln Brigade, the volunteer army that fought against fascists in the Spanish Civil War, opened with great fanfare at Justin Herman Plaza. On Tuesday afternoon, tourists and lunchtime strollers alike visited the memorial and saw that it had been inexplicably transformed. Across one side, someone had spray painted "Viva Durru y Orwell" - an extolment of Spanish anarchist Buenaventura Durruti (who died in the war) and George Orwell (who fought against the fascists in Spain and was wounded).
