Posted to the web 23 July 2008 Polycarp Machira Tanzania will tomorrow launch the millennium development goal III, a Champion Torch that seeks to put gender equality and empowerment of women higher on the international agenda. President Jakaya Kikwete is expected to officiate at the launch of the key initiative in the Danish global call to ignite a wave of global resolve in support of MDG 3. On March 7, the global MDG 3 Champion Torch was launched in Copenhagen. In the run-up to the planned UN high level MDG meeting on September 25, more than 100 MDG 3 torches will be raced around the world. Recipients of the torch are always representatives of governments, private sector, civil society, the media, individuals from North and South, and international organisations.
