Hartlepool were held at Consett after a late equaliser by the non league side Hartlepool United assistant manager Ian Butterworth took charge as Pools headed to local side Consett. Butterworth named a side including Michael Nelson, Andy Monkhouse and Michael Mackay who was returning to his former side. It was Mackay who had the best chance of the first half when he had a shot well saved by the home keeper before firing the follow up over the bar. Pools did take the lead in the second half when Jonny Rowell's cross was deflected in by a home defender. Andy Monkhouse and Alan Power both went close but it was the home side who were piling on the pressure.
