AN Adelaide doctor struck off for 12 months has won the chance to have his application to be re-registered heard again. Dr Michael Papps was struck off the medical register by the Medical Board of SA for 12 months in 2006 for unprofessional conduct. He claimed his suspension should have expired last August and appealed to the Supreme Court against the board's decision not to reinstate him. Today, Chief Justice John Doyle upheld Dr Papps's appeal. He ordered the board's decision refusing Dr Papps's application to be reinstated be set aside and his application be reheard. Dr Papps had claimed the board was "punishing" him by continuing the ban even after he admitted operating on a patient with inappropriate staff, without hand-washing facilities and in unhygienic rooms.
