By JG/T-C Staff sports@jg-tc.com COLUMBUS, OHIO -- The Mattoon Pride 14-and-under softball team went 2-0 Monday in pool play at the National Softball Association “A” World Series. The Pride defeated the Canton, Ohio Valley Extreme 3-2 and downed the Jersey Sharks 12-1. Maura Cummins pitched a two-hitter and allowed only one earned run in the 3-2 victory, while on offense Melanie Sparks, Kayla Jacobs and Tana Rentschler each had a hit for Mattoon with Rentschler driving in two runs. In the second game Tabitha Davis of Sullivan allowed just three in the game called due to the 10-run rule. Mattoon’s Paige Roytek had a triple and drove in four runs, while Jacobs and Kacey Starwalt had two hits each and drove in three runs.
