MADRID: Argentina’s Lionel Messi travelled on Monday with the rest of his Barcelona team-mates to the club’s pre-season training camp in Scotland while he waits for FIFA to decide whether or not he will be allowed to represent his country at the Olympics. The 21-year-old winger has repeatedly expressed his desire to help Argentina defend their Olympic title in China next month but Barcelona has been reluctant to let him go as he is needed for early Champions League matches. The Catalan club has instead written to the world football governing body to ask if it was obliged to allow Messi to take part in the Olympics. “We expect that FIFA will issue a statement saying that we are right,” Barcelona coach Pepe Guardiola said last week.
