This letter has not been edited This past week was notable for two reasons. First Al Gore called on America to wean itself off of carbon fuels entirely in the next decade to avoid the climate crisis. At the same time the American Physical Society, an organization representing nearly 50,000 physicists, has reversed its stance on climate change. The leadership of the society had previously called the evidence for global warming “incontrovertible.” Editor Jeffrey Marque of the APS explains, “There is a considerable presence within the scientific community of people who do not agree with the IPCC conclusion that anthropogenic CO2 emissions are very probably likely to be primarily responsible for global warming that has occurred since the Industrial Revolution.” In 1999, Global Warming had a big backing.
