Liberal rivals playing politics with climate change: Rudd

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd says the plan for an emissions trading scheme has become entangled with the Federal Opposition's leadership struggle. The Federal Government wants to introduce a carbon reduction scheme from 2010, but it could be delayed in the Senate. Opposition Leader Brendan Nelson says the scheme should not start until at least 2011, and preferably not until 2012. Mr Rudd says the Federal Government's position is clear, but the Coalition's view is not. "I would strongly urge all people who are interested in the country's long-term interests to get on board rather than playing short-term electoral politics, which now seem to be caught up in the leadership politics of the Liberal Party on this critical question of climate change," he said.
