According to the office of U.S. Rep. Maurice Hinchey, D-Hurley, the government has yet to make the formal request, although diplomatic talks have been under way. Once the Department of Justice petitions the Serbian Ministry of Justice to sign an extradition order, the fate of the former Binghamton University basketball player is up in the air. Kovacevic's alleged crimes are not listed among the crimes covered by an extradition treaty between the United States and Serbia, according to Peter Roudik, senior foreign law specialist at the Law Library of Congress.
