Drink-drive figures 'disappoint'

Police have hit out after 29 motorists in the Grampian area were charged with drink or drugs offences in the first week of a clampdown. They caught 24 men aged between 18 and 61 and five women between 20 and 45. Of the offenders, 16 were in Aberdeenshire, eight in Aberdeen and five in Moray. Sgt Neil Morrison said the first week of the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland summer campaign had been "disappointing". The motorists arrested between 14 July and 21 July were charged with either driving under the influence of alcohol, being drunk in charge of a vehicle or driving under the influence of drugs. Some of those caught were three times the legal limit.
