BILL Bryson, president of the Campaign to Protect Rural England, has slammed Poole and New Forest councils for "doing nothing" to stop fly-tipping. The celebrated author and former Daily Echo sub editor spoke out in an article, calling for tougher penalties and enforcement to stop the British countryside becoming a litter-strewn dumping ground. Among the councils he named and shamed for not catching or fining anyone for fly-tipping over the 2006-2007 year were Borough of Poole and New Forest District Council. He said: "It is time for authorities to get serious about their responsibilities and for government to get serious about local authorities."
