As a longtime northern Colorado resident and a board member of a local homeowners association, I am inspired to address the water shortage problem and a solution. Our homeowners association, among other actions, uses untreated water from a local ditch company to irrigate common areas. We are one of the very few subdivisions in northern Colorado to use raw water for irrigation. The city of Loveland and the Thompson R2-J school district irrigate some areas with raw water. We are using raw water because our forefathers in the 1870s had the foresight to organize and construct a ditch system to divert water from the Big Thompson River for irrigation and agricultural production.
