Avalon's new owners making strides

Tony Myers • News Journal correspondent • July 22, 2008 Mandy Boesen has worked at Avalon Bowling Center for more than 13 years. In that time, she has done everything. She has worked the front desk and the snack bar. She has been a bartender in the lounge. She has even worked as a pin chaser. She also bowls and has been secretary for several leagues throughout the years. Her husband, Joey, owns his own business, Shelby Sash and Door. He doesn't consider himself a bowler like Mandy, but he does bowl. Working at the bowling center, Mandy knew that the owners, Zona and Hugh DuBose, were considering putting it up for sale. They had owned it since it opened in the early 1990s. The Boesens decided they would make an offer to them and see if they would accept it. They did and Dec. 5, 2007, they became the new owners.
