Myanmar cyclone loss estimated over $4 bln

YANGON, July 21 (Xinhua) -- The total damage and losses due to a recent cyclone storm in Myanmar are estimated at 4.4 to 4.5 trillion Kyats (4.02 to 4.13 billion U.S. dollars), according to a joint assessment report of Myanmar, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the United Nations (UN) released here Monday. The industry and commerce sectors accounted for over 50 percent of the total damage and losses due primarily to the impact on the larger and medium scale enterprises, while losses in agricultural production are extensive and greatly affect the population in the Delta, the 187-page Post-Nargis Joint Assessment (PONJA) report said, adding that the projected losses on Gross Demestic Products (GDP) is about 2.7 percent overall.
