Hannover goalkeeper Robert Enke is confident he will be the man to take over the Germany number one jersey should Jens Lehmann retire from the international game. The 30-year-old was one of two back-up goalkeepers to Lehmann at Euro 2008, along with Bayer Leverkusen rookie Rene Adler, and now feels ready to become number one. "At the end of the day, consistently good performances should make the difference and that makes me optimistic," he told Kicker magazine. "I am confident and do not feel I am just a short-term solution. "My best years lie ahead of me." Enke has always figured as a contender for the Bundesliga's goalkeeper of the year award since joining Hannover in 2004 after a disappointing spells with Barcelona and Benfica.
