Friends raise money for medical costs By Megan Saucke • Special to The Journal • July 21, 2008 The Groton American Legion held a benefit Saturday to raise money for Edie Garvin, a Moravia resident with small-cell lung cancer. Garvin, a Cornell University retiree in her 70s, worked at the Post Office in Day Hall on the campus. “Edie is a phenomenal person,” said Dawn Potter, one of the main organizers of the event. “She is always on the go, she never sits down. She doesn't have time to be sick. This is really an inconvenience for her.” People crowded into the pavilion behind the legion to eat food and listen to music by pickups band Your Friends and Neighbors and Bill Sherwood and Friends.
