Schwarzenberg calls Čunek audit almost closed

By ČTK / Published 21 July 2008 Prague, July 20 (CTK) - Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg said Sunday he considers the investigation by the U.S. Kroll agency that tried to cast light on the origin of Czech deputy prime minister Jiri Cunek's property to be closed. He added in the Questions of Vaclav Moravec on Czech Television (CT) that this could only change if something serious were found in the 700 pages that the auditors did not get from the Cunek file. Schwarzenberg said, however, the Kroll firm does not expect anything new to be uncovered. Cunek, who is also local development minister, senator and Christian Democrat (KDU-CSL) chairman, was suspected of bribe taking in 2002 when he was mayor of Vsetin, north Moravia, but the police definitively halted his prosecution last November.
