DOCTORS fear the Rudd Government's planned GP Super Clinics have been located according to political need rather than Tasmania's health needs. The Tasmanian branch of the AMA yesterday backed a call from a leading health academic for an independent review of the super clinic locations. AMA state president Haydn Walters said the Federal Government should thoroughly assess the health needs of the state. The clinics should be placed in the areas of most want. The current planned locations in the South _ Sorell and Bellerive – did not necessarily represent the areas where the doctor shortage was most dire. "This is obviously a political stunt," Professor Walters said. "Nobody has come to Tasmania and asked us where these clinics should go."
