Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan expects to further bolster his squad by the end of August after making just two signings so far. The Magpies chief has already added widemen Jonas Gutierrez and Danny Guthrie to his attacking options from Real Mallorca and Liverpool respectively. However, Keegan is short at the back after the departures of Stephen Carr, Peter Ramage and David Rozehnal which means he needs defensive reinforcement as a priority.
