Szymanski sits but not on his laurels

Reserve stays ready, positive Louisville Bats players often speak about the unselfish nature of their team and clubhouse, and outfielder B. J. Szymanski could be their spokesman. Szymanski was promoted from Double-A Chattanooga on June 4 to replace outfielder Corey Patterson, who went up to Cincinnati. In Triple-A, Szymanski has accepted the unglamorous role of situational player. "B. J.'s in a tough situation," Bats manger Rick Sweet said. "He doesn't get to play a lot, and when he has played he's made the best of it." All of Szymanski's four Triple-A RBIs came in his past three games. He had what amounted to a game-winning, two-run single against Buffalo on July 13. "All I can do is do the best that I can when I do get in there and try to help out the team," Szymanski said.
