SOUTHPORT, England -- The English had high hopes that one of their own would win the British Open for the first time since Nick Faldo in 1992, but few thought the Englishman in fourth place at Royal Birkdale would be Simon Wakefield. Even he wasn't expecting it. ''I was very nervous [Saturday] morning over breakfast,'' said Wakefield, 34, who began the third round tied for 22nd. ''I might not sleep tonight. It's a very unfamiliar territory for me. I am going to try and relax tonight and try not to think about it.''
