Police thwart plot to free Đinđić killer

BELGRADE -- Police have thwarted a plot to liberate Milorad Ulemek from Belgrade’s Central Prison, writes daily Večernje Novosti. According to the daily, a criminal group led by L.B. was to be paid EUR 2mn to carry out an armed ambush on a column of vehicles transferring the former Special Operations Unit (JSO) leader from Central Prison to the Special Court. The police obtained the information several months ago and, according to the daily, reacted rapidly by raising the security level to its maximum. V.M. from Montenegro, himself a former JSO officer, was tasked with planning Ulemek’s getaway.
