Poway High alum Marvell Wynne II, the son of the former Padres outfielder by the same name, was selected to the U.S. men's soccer team for the Beijing Olympics, it was announced yesterday. Not on the 18-man roster was Patrick Henry High alum Sal Zizzo, who plays for German club Hannover 96. Because World Cup qualifying in the CONCACAF region overlaps with the Olympics, U.S. coach Peter Nowak was limited in his options for the three allotted overage players. He picked defender Michael Parkhurst of the New England Revolution; goalkeeper Brad Guzan, who recently transferred to English club Aston Villa; and 36-year-old forward Brian McBride, who retired from the national team in 2006 and currently does not have a pro club.
