Discounters remain active in state BY GRETA GUEST • FREE PRESS BUSINESS WRITER • July 18, 2008 Retail development is slowing as the economy sputters, but Michigan is still attracting its share of new stores from home improvement retailer Menard Inc. to gyms like L.A. Fitness. "There is still a tremendous amount of retail expansion in the state," Michael Lippitt, cofounder of Landmark Commercial Real Estate Services in Farmington Hills, said Thursday. "There are very few completely inactive retailers," said Lippitt, who spoke about retailers who are looking at Michigan during the 2008 Michigan Idea Exchange in Novi on Thursday.
