And for the first time since 16-year-old and former Portsmouth Little League all-star Will Berky died during a pool party last Saturday, members of a close-knit baseball community traded tears for cheers. The Port City's current crop of 11- and 12-year-old all-stars -- seeking the program's third consecutive state championship and fifth crown since 2002 -- remained perfect in the postseason. They slugged six home runs en route to a 24-0 mercy-rule win over Belmont in Game 1 of the best-of-three District II title round at Bryant Field. Portsmouth improved to 6-0 in district play.
