Brent MacGrath thought he had purchased a good horse but nothing more than that when he invested $40,000 in Somebeachsomewhere at a Lexington, Ky., sale in October 2006. "I didn't think I had a world champion," said MacGrath, who owns and trains standardbreds on a limited basis when not involved with his full-time occupation as a car dealer in Nova Scotia. Yet Somebeachsomewhere is being compared to harness racing legends such as Niatross as he takes a perfect 10-for-10 record into the $1.1 million Meadowlands Pace on Saturday at Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford, N.J.
