By: News 8 Austin Staff San Marcos police arrested four people in connection with a human smuggling operation after holding 26 people hostage in a trailer. Police said the people were held against their will and were clothed only in their underwear so they wouldn't run away. A call was made to police from a family member from one of the hostages who said the people threatened to do harm to their relative if they didn't pay up. Police responded to the scene of 518 Iris Lane in San Marcos where they found the hostages. Apart from minor injuries and bouts of dehydration, everyone was in good condition. The 26 people held hostage are from Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua and are now in the custody of ICE. The U.S. Attorneys office is determining if there will be federal charges.
