There's the frustration of figuring out what to pack (and what not to pack), picking out the right DVDs for the portable player and making sure someone can check on the house while you're gone - the responsible sort who'll get the mail, bring in the newspaper and not fall asleep on your couch for the night. And that's all before you even leave the driveway. With those challenges - and $4 per gallon gasoline - in mind, my wife and I decided to take our two sons, ages 3 and 6, on a three- day getaway this summer. Destination, St. Louis. Our goal?
