Turkish-led excavation projects are currently under way in the historic city of Hasankeyf in the eastern province of Batman. Anatolia, the “cradle of civilizations,” will be the site of numerous excavations conducted by both foreign and local archaeological teams this year. While İzmir ranks first with 15 planned excavation projects, Antalya will host 14 such projects, and other provinces around Anatolia will also see the excavation of historical sites. İzmir is expected to unearth a great deal of its historical heritage in 2008.
