United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon has thanked Germany for its role in mediating international conflicts. After meeting with Defence Minister Franz Josef Jung in Berlin, Ban said Germany had always been a strong partner of the UN. He particularly praised German involvement in the reconstruction of Afghanistan, and also expressed gratitude for the work of a German mediator in helping bring about the prisoner exchange deal between Israel and Hezbollah.
