RIM isn't sweating the iPhone

MATT HARTLEY Globe and Mail Update WATERLOO, ONT. — It took more than an hour for someone to utter the word "iPhone" at Research In Motion Ltd.'s annual general meeting Tuesday night. For more than an hour, RIM co-chief executives Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis managed to avoid mentioning Apple Inc.'s rival smart phone, which launched in Canada last week. Instead, they told shareholders about the dynamite financials the company posted in fiscal 2008, they chatted about the increasing global popularity of the BlackBerry family of devices and showed off the company's new advertising campaign. But once the floor opened for questions, the first thing shareholders who saw the media reports about iPhone line ups around the world last week wanted to know was what the launch of the rival next generation iPhone means for RIM.
