LONDON — Aeroflex Inc. (Colorado Springs, Colo.), as supplier of RF and broadband technology for aerospace, defense and communications applications, has said it has acquired privately held Gaisler Research AB (Gothenburg, Sweden). How much Aeroflex paid to acquire Gaisler Research was not disclosed. Gaisler has developed a range of Sparc-compliant synthesizable processors which are available under free licensing terms. Known as Leon, the processor architecture is used in European space applications. Established in 2001 by Jiri Gaisler, a former European Space Agency engineer, the Gaisler core design team has in-house design facilities for microprocessor, ASIC and field programmable gate array-based designs.
