A new plan means a lost chance to house students in a good spot Williamsburg may accomplish one objective: It may get rid of the Southern Inn eyesore. The owners have submitted a plan to replace the old motel with a mixed condo-retail-restaurant development. But it will lose out on the chance this site offered to achieve another objective: developing appropriate housing for College of William and Mary students, alternatives to the single-family neighborhoods where they're often not wanted.
