Instead, they're both dancing around, altering their positions on things and hoping we don't notice. But we do, and their failure to be candid about reversals just makes them look like every other politician. Both developed their reputations by being something different. Obama was fresh, and McCain was a straight shooter. That means they shouldn't act like other politicians when they have a change of heart. McCain's now for offshore oil drilling and tax cuts he once opposed. Obama was for taking public funding of his election campaign until he figured out he could raise more from individual donors.
