Europol The Hague, 11 July 2008 Europol supports the Italian Carabinieri in dismantling an international payment card fraud network The Hague - The Netherlands. An international criminal network of card forgers was smashed today by the Italian Comando Provinciale Carabinieri of Livorno, supported by the Comando Carabinieri Antifalsificazione Monetaria of Rome and the European Police agency, Europol. The operation known as "Plastik" resulted in the successful dismantling of an international payment card fraud network. The perpetrators skimmed and cloned credit cards, originating from countries all over Europe. The data was then utilised to produce counterfeit payment cards which were subsequently used for illegal cash withdrawals and payments in Greece and Italy.
