Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer underwent surgery for a broken foot Wednesday and will miss the club's Champions League qualification matches. Team doctors expect the 22-year-old Neuer to be out for two months after he was injured without making contact with another player during Tuesday's 6-0 preseason win against SpVgg Erkenschwick. Neuer will be absent for the start of the Bundesliga season on Aug. 15, a German Cup match and Champions League qualifying in mid-August. Neuer played every match for Schalke since November 2006 and was between the posts as the club reached last year's Champions League quarterfinals.
