Man killed in Christie Pits during lightning storm

Posted: July 09, 2008, 9:05 AM by Jeremy Barker An autopsy is to be performed Wednesday on a 28-year-old Kitchener, Ont., man who died after he was apparently struck by lightning in Christie Pits Park. The man was found unconscious under a maple tree after the storm had passed Tuesday night. “He had no pulse and no breath so I called 911,” said Curtis Puncher, a passerby who found the man. The victim had apparently been seeking shelter from the storm when he was killed. Police have not yet released the man’s name. There were reports of 430 lightning flashes across the Toronto area Tuesday night. Environment Canada suggests people stay away from tall trees and towers during storms.
