By Mary Hopkin, Herald staff writer A phony news release announcing an important contract award was sent to unknown number of Hanford employees Tuesday, apparently from a Lockheed Martin employee at Hanford. The fake news release said that Battelle and its partner CSC had been awarded the mission support contract, which currently is held by Lockheed Martin. Both companies have bid on the upcoming contract for work at the Hanford nuclear reservation, but the winner has not been announced. The contract is valued at up to $325 million a year for up to 10 years. "There has been no contract award," said Geoff Tyree, a Department of Energy spokesman.
