Tax board authorizes $1.5M for dredging

NORWALK By ROBERT KOCH Hour Staff Writer Phase Two of the Norwalk Harbor dredging project could begin in October. That's the hope, anyway, after the Common Council on Tuesday night authorized appropriating $1 million in state funding, and bonding $500,000 in city funds for the massive project. Phase Two, pegged at roughly $10.1 million, entails removing up to 400,000 cubic yards of sediment from the outer harbor and depositing it into the Central Long Island Sound disposal site off New Haven. The Norwalk Harbor Manage-ment Commission rushed the appropriation request to the council in order to allow the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to put the project out to bid for a fall start-date.
