ACC blog: Celebs tee off, Digger Phelps kids around

Digger Phelps just won't shut up. Turns out that's a very good thing for fans gathered around the first hole at Edgewood as the former Notre Dame basketball coach teed off in picture-perfect conditions. Easily the chattiest and most good-natured celeb in the group, Digger trades jabs with spectators like a stand-up comedian from Brooklyn riffing on something topical. When our interviewer, Siobhan McAndrew, mentions she went to school in Buffalo, the affable New Yorker rattled off the names of dozen pizza joints he's frequented. "You remember Andy's in Buffalo down by the factories? No, you don't. Best meatballs in the country," Phelps said. But there is a serious side to the man, too.
