Heavy rain lashes Kinki, Hokuriku districts as lightning strikes cause power cuts

Heavy rain lashed the Kinki and Hokuriku districts early on Tuesday, causing widespread flooding, while lightning cut power to some 10,000 homes in Wakayama Prefecture. Damage including flooding and power cuts occurred in Nara, Wakayama, Ishikawa and Toyama prefectures, among other areas. In Tateyama, Toyama Prefecture, a 62-year-old man who went to check on a rice paddy parked his car at the side of a waterway, but failed to return, sparking a police search. In the city of Kanazawa, it was also reported that someone had been swept into a waterway. Metrological Agency officials said that during a one-hour period from 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, 110 millimeters of rain was recorded in Kanazawa.
