By ČTK / Published 3 July 2008 Novy Jicin, North Moravia, July 2 (CTK) - Czech surgeons will leave for a two-week stay in Ghana to perform some 60 to 80 operations as the first doctors from central and eastern Europe to take part in the humanitarian mission, Simona Souckova, spokeswoman for the Novy Jicin hospital, told CTK Wednesday. Until now, only doctors from western Europe worked within the mission. In Ghana, many people die of health problems that are commonly operable in the Czech Republic, such as a ruptured gastric ulcer. The Czech team, comprising three doctors and three nurses, will work in hard tropical conditions and had to be vaccinated against a series of illnesses before departure.
