Wall Street, U.S. market update, stocks, economy, Dow, Nasdaq, S&P A see-saw session ended with stocks falling off in the afternoon and landing in bear-market territory by the closing bell. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and Nasdaq both ended the day on bear turf, down 20 percent from their October highs. The Dow lost 1.5 percent, while the Nasdaq shed 2.3 percent and the S&P 500 index declined 1.8 percent. Volume was thin as traders had already begun to filter out for the Fourth of July holiday. The stock market will close at 1pm ET Thursday and the bond market at 2pm ET. All U.S. financial markets are closed Friday.
